24 Hour Comics Day 2006 logo

In 2006 we had a blast! 16 out of 17 registered participants came to Elfsar with the intention to complete a task that would normally require at least a month for any artist to do. The challenge was to create a fully inked 24 page story in just 24 hours. Amazingly, along with the motivation to be published by Elfsar, 13 of these talented artists were able to complete this amazing task on or under the twenty-four hour time constraint!

-Hey look! It's We had a surprise visit from Lee Cleary (the Producer of X-men, X2, X3 films, the Fantastic Four and upcoming Fantastic four: Rise of the Silver Surfer)!
We cornered him and took his snapshot.

His daughter will be the flower girl in the new FF movie (how's that for a piece of fried gold!)

Thank you to all the participants for a truly unforgettable experience.
Thank you to all who dropped by to both encourage and check out the event.
A special thank you to Mrs. Parizek who dropped off an enormous assortment of home made cookies!
Thank you to whoever brought the tidbits from Tim Hortons. (I honestly don't know who did it.)
And a NOT so much thank you to the local Red Bull head office who originally said they would donate to the 24hour comic day only to boldly drop off a bill for the total amount a day before our event. Nice PR guys! (to be fair Red Bull 2 weeks later dropped off a sampler pack as a donation and apologized for the lack of support for our event.) So I am no longer upset with them, just disappointed.

Original post:
Comics have definitely changed over the years and is a medium that is still growing and evolving.

You can be a part of that evolvement as both Elfsar and Happy Harbor are active and proud sponsors of this annual event since it's inception. We welcome and encourage all interested parties to take a chance and 'give it a go' as this is a unique opportunity to create in a supportive environment with the influence and reference of comics all around you.

Weather you are an active artist, writer or not, it doesn't matter. The important thing is to try.

Two Great Locations & One Awesome Team

Elfsar Comics & Toys & HH is proud to announce that we will both be hosting this event again.

You must show up on time.  To do the best you can.  It does not matter if you have finished as all artwork will be submitted.  Please remember that this is a challenge and not a contest.

However, HH will self publish all completed works (stories inked, with an ending) as  well as photocopying & submitting all completed works to the 24 Hr Comics Day people.

All work completed at either host site will be copied and sent to the 24 HR people for review for publication. In 2005, 24 interesting stories were chosen from the hundreds created during that year's 24 Hour Comics Day and published in "24 Hour Comics Day Highlights 2005", a big, thick, spider-womper of a volume packed with energetic, improvisational comics.

Both Vancouver and Edmonton locations will produce their own 24 hour comics book, regardless if any submissions qualify for the the 2006 Highlights, so if your work has a beginning, an ending and is fully inked, your work will definitely be published!  At Elfsar there will be a small $10.00 fee to cover miscellaneous expenses and Elfsar will be photocopying each submission as we don't send the originals.  At HH, a fundraiser will be held collecting donations for the Alberta Literacy Foundation prior and during the event. A $100 fundraiser fee is what people should strive for in order to participate. The goal is to surpass 2005's $1600.

Both locations doors will be open to the public and people are encouraged to come by and check out the action. Please keep checking back and let your friends know what's happening.  If you are participating, it's an amazing experience that you'll never forget!
